Top tips for your confetti shot

The confetti shot is one of the iconic photos most couples want captured at their wedding. When done right, it can look epic! Here are some of my top tips for getting the perfect confetti shot.

Type of confetti

There are different types of confetti; petals or paper confetti. Paper confetti is generally a cheaper option but you’ll need to make sure it is biodegradable as most venues require this. Petals will look rustic and natural, but may fall faster as they are slightly heavier than paper. Generally, paper or smaller petals are the way to go, as they will hang in the air for longer and fall to the ground delicately.

Amount of confetti

The more the better! Don’t skimp on the confetti, the more you have the better the photos will look. Make sure there is enough for each guest to have 1-2 handfuls.

Colour of confetti

Think about the colour of the confetti to ensure it will stand out where the photos are being taken. You also might want the confetti to complement the colour scheme of your wedding. Suppliers will often offer either a mix of colours or single colours; the choice is up to you!

Throwing confetti

You want your guests to throw the confetti high in the air (not in your faces) to get the perfect flutter. You’ll also want enough of your guests participating in the shot and to know when they need to throw. So it might be worth considering assigning one of your bridesmaids or groomsmen the task of organising the guests on the day, to assist the photographer.

Different types of confetti shots

Traditionally you think of the moment the bride and groom walk out the church with guests lined up either side. But there are so many other options that provide awesome confetti photos. Having your guests gathering around the bride and groom and throwing confetti provides a high impact shot with lots of confetti. You might want to consider doing the confetti line up at a different moment in your day, such as entering your reception venue. You may even want to swap out the confetti for something else like bubbles!

Speak to your photographer

To have the best chance of capturing the perfect confetti photos on your day, make sure to speak to your photographer in advance so they know what style of photo you are after and how to organise the shot.
